TheCompañía de Vinos spends a lot of time in Asia and Japan. Along the way, we have become intrigued by Manga culture. To now be part of a story in this important medium is an exciting development in our story. The Manga strip devoted to the Compañía de Vinos takes place at a blind tasting. Alongside the drawing of Telmo, the text reads, “The young oenologist Telmo Rodríguez found a vineyard in the forgotten area of Valdeorras. With grapes perfectly ripe and a modern method of elaboration he was able to make a surprisingly high quality wine.” The taster proclaims that the wine being tasted is nothing less than a Hermitage by one of the Rhone Valley’s most respected estates:JL Chave. But in actual fact the wine is a Gaba do Xil Mencía by the Compania de Vinos. This is both very funny, in light of the fact that Telmo Rodriguez gained invaluable experience with Chave early on in his career, and a little cheeky, too, given JL Chave’s global prominence.
